Vaudevillgham Monthly Uncensored Variety Show Fundraiser

Bellingham Circus Guild on Iron Street presents its monthly Vaudevillingham, the monthly uncensored variety show fundraiser, on Nov. 15. with two shows at 8p.m. and 10p.m, respectively.

“Anybody who wants to perform can do it. They can do anything and everything as long as they don’t go fully naked,” Jason Quick, a one-armed juggler who has been in Vaudevillingham for almost three years, said.

The uncensored performance meant that the show is not limited to ‘kids only’ but hurtful or discriminatory acts are not allowed.

Raffle tickets went for sale at one for a dollar and six for five dollars. Funds raised from the Vaudevillingham goes into the guild to continue supporting circus arts community in Whatcom County.

“We were short-handed previously but when we placed the call out, it became a full show,” Quick said.
The show started with a half-hour musical before moving into the acts, which lasted about an hour and a half.

When I'm performing, I'm seeking the best experience that I can for me and the audience,” Quick said.

Sunnyland Elementary School Harvest Carnival

Sunnyland Elementary School held a Harvest Festive Carnival on Oct. 21 from 6 to 8 p.m. The carnival was a fundraiser and about 500 people including children and parents turned up to show their support.

“It’s something fun for the kids,” Laurie Barrett said, 34, organizer of the carnival and vice president of Sunnyland Elementary School’s PTA.

In the previous year, the carnival was mostly organized by Barrett with occasional help from a volunteer. This year, Barrett said she sent an email out requesting for assistance and the response was great. 50 volunteer turned up to provide their assistance.

The funds raised in from the carnival would go into the PTA fund which will be used for the students of Sunnyland Elementary School, for instance, field trips.

The carnival took three to four weeks of planning to put into place. The result was 14 different stations set up in the gym with interesting games like Fishing Pond, Bean Bag and Tattoo Parlor. A 47-feet-long air-blown train was rented too for the students to enjoy the carnival.
